Love Yes
Album · Indie Rock · 2016
TEEN have played with several styles over the years, from rubbery, Erykah Badu-style R&B (The Way and Color) to punky psychedelia (In Limbo). Love Yes finds the Brooklyn quartet settling on shimmering, atmospheric New Wave that’s part-Prince, part-Bangles—artists whose nervy energy always had a sexual edge. Opening with a loping, dreamy story of an unfaithful husband reckoning with middle age (“Tokyo”), the album explores variations on a theme of desire, from the primal thump of “Animal” to the alien power ballad “Another Man’s Woman,” two highlights that prove the band hasn’t been messing around so much as slowly refining their sound.
