As Basic Rhythm, Hastings-born Anthoney J. Hart isolates sounds from old jungle records, UK garage mixtapes and Roland 808 and 909 drum machines, then refashions them into jerky, alien rhythms. "Get Dark" deploys chipmunked vocals and a dark cartoon choir over a lurching, futuristic grime beat, while "Maintain" sprinkles the droning synths and dark jazz of classic Metalheadz releases atop a stew of rubbery, bubbling drums. Raw Trax is intended as a collection of club cuts, but these eight unpredictable transmissions are quite unlike any dance anthems you’ve heard before.
