Les Pythons de la Fournaise offer a fresh take on sega—the festive folk-pop of Réunion and Mauritius. On their second album, the gruff-voiced René Cadet delivers tropically tinged traditionals like "Ah Pauline", pop-sega hits like "Pardon" and other standards of the genre. Drums and percussion drive triplet rhythms, whilst echoing electric guitars and a vintage synth bring this deeply rooted sound more or less into the present.
