Russ Taff has sung a little of everything, from Southern gospel to traditional country. But rock ’n’ roll-minded listeners may know him best for this tough-talking, no-frills album, which unites outspokenly Christian lyrics with catchy melodies and big, sing-along choruses. Though the synth-driven production may seem a little dated today, the songs themselves sound as fresh as ever. “Vision” celebrates God’s plan of divine love, “Not Gonna Bow” pledges resolve against idolatry and the title song champions a hero—or is that a Hero?—not necessarily honoured by society.
