Danish guitarist-composer Morten Kargaard and his Septet draw on numerous influences while retaining a highly individual musical voice. Sitting between jazz and classical, they explore some rich sonorities with oboe and trumpet alongside strings and guitar. The result is melodically strong, richly textured and, at times, very poignant. Zealand is album that speaks to the heart in a piece such as “Painterõs Garden”, while “A Humble Prayer” enchants with gentle simplicity before “The Wind” conjures up complex, multi-layered worlds of its own.
