Crackling wit, taut songwriting and the spunky spirit of Harvard Law School’s best-dressed enrollee, Elle Woods, make the soundtrack to Legally Blonde’s musical adaptation a delight. Laura Bell Bundy’s star turn as the titular legal eagle-in-training makes her shopgirl pestering on the opener, “Omigod You Guys”, as charming as the play’s triumphant finale; as the beautician Paulette, meanwhile, Orfeh racks “Ireland” with despair. Elle’s tale of bucking the odds gets extra life with Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe’s snappy dialogue and peppy songwriting.
