Enoch zu Guttenberg
Schubert: Symphony No. 9 in C Major, D. 944
Album · Classical · 2018
From the very first notes, German orchestra KlangVerwaltung—which translates to Sound Administration—deliver a striking performance. The natural horns’ fanfare has an appealing rawness and there’s a biting immediacy to the playing. KlangVerwaltung’s style of rehearsal is a collaborative process based on a workshop principle, and it results in music that sounds wonderfully spontaneous and full of energy. Principal Conductor Enoch zu Guttenberg offers a straightforward and nicely judged approach with particularly well-chosen tempos. Everything nips along with great impetus but allows for some lovely moments of reflection too.
