On the soundtrack to Theevandi, a timely cinematic commentary on cigarettes, composer Kailas Menon juxtaposes classical ragas against electronica—and traditional structures against Western instrumentation—with equal ease. The reethigowlai raga “Jeevamshamayi” and the snazzy disco cut “Vijanatheerame" may seem misplaced at first listen, but heard together they strike a fine balance. Meanwhile, Anthony Dasan leads an exuberant chorus on "Oru Theepettikkum Venda”, which creates a gorgeous amalgamation of flute and electric guitar.
