Country and Americana infuse Costello’s 2009 album, recorded in Nashville in just three days. “I Felt the Chill Before the Winter Came” is a haunting waltz-time lament written with Loretta Lynn, while he reworks his own “Complicated Shadows” as a country shuffle with guitars that twang and sigh. There are boot-scooters (“Hidden Shame”), heartbreakers (“Changing Partners”) and plenty of tears in beers, as Costello’s mood swings between the back porch and the bar.
