Street Songs of Love is Escovedo’s grittiest and most visceral record—a collection of searing rock ‘n’ roll fuelled by biting guitars and the songwriter’s poetic lyrics. “Anchor” kicks things off with a heavy riff and a crash of symbols as he wails alongside soulful backup singers about the sometimes punishing nature of love. “Tula” recalls the Texas musician’s home state with its dark, simmering blues, and “Faith”, complete with Bruce Springsteen’s gravelly guest vocals, is an explosive, hopeful anthem packed with ferocious shredding.
