With its roared raps, metalhead-reverent production and unsettling fixation on Larry Clark’s shocking filmography, the previous City Morgue project HELL OR HIGH WATER throttled anyone foolish enough to get in the way of their full-scale aural riot. And while SosMula and ZillaKami certainly haven’t softened for this follow-up, As Good As Dead finds the New York duo channelling their macabre energy somewhat differently. Executive-produced by long-time Kanye West comrade Mike Dean, this second volume explores a broader range of sinister sounds alongside signature urban-horror scares like “Dirtnap” and “Thresh". “The Give Up” is imbued with a sing-song creepiness, while “The Balloons” gives off gothic ghoulishness.
