The colour blue conjures universal images—the ocean, an open sky, a favourite pair of jeans. The songs on KANG DANIEL’s debut EP CYAN draw on universal emotions and feelings familiar to the former Wanna One ace. The musical table is neatly set with hip-hop beats and inviting synths, an ideal environment for his voice (and his silky falsetto) to thrive. The wordplay on “Jealous” and “Interview” brings Kang’s vocal skills to the forefront, while the personal messages tucked into “2U” and “Adulthood” hint at his artistic growth. The first of a planned three-part series that connects different hues to different groups of songs, CYAN is imbued with a playful vibe that blurs the line between pop and R&B.
