Album · Country · 2020
Twinnie, the performing moniker of UK-based singer, songwriter and actor Twinnie-Lee Moore, made her debut full-length with global appeal in mind. Hollywood Gypsy, whose dozen tracks were crafted in London, Nashville and Sweden, is a work of savvy, spirited, high-gloss country pop in the tradition of Shania Twain. There’s sparkle and a bit of bite to Twinnie’s depictions of romantic mind games, teasing and temptation (“I Love You Now Change”, “Better When I’m Drunk”, “Chasing”). As a vocalist, she proves herself to be energetically flexible, belting her rueful admissions of vulnerability during “Superhero”, cheekily voicing disdain during the galloping, western-flavoured number “Daddy Issues” and flaunting her impatience with rigid, gendered expectations during “Type of Girl”. Over the latter track's kinetic club thump, she breezily warns, "If you’re the guy who’s looking for a good wife, don’t look at me to fit that ’50s stereotype."
