Album · Classical · 2020
Zurich’s Tonhalle concert hall is famous for its tonhalleLATE series, in which concertgoers experience world-class symphonic programmes before relaxing upstairs to electronic dance music. Inspired by the spectacular landscapes of his home country, in particular Natthall, a rocky outcrop overlooking the Rönne river, Swedish producer and DJ Sebastian Mullaert brings the two worlds of tonhalleLATE together, blending classical instruments with a canvas of hypnotic electronic sounds. The result is a mesmerising reflection on nature. The slow, thrumming synth rhythms of “As the River Pass” combine with the glacial textures of the Tonhalle strings, with harp, glistening like sunlight on water. “Ascending of a Spotless Bird” brings a stunning spring sunrise to life, while the album comes full circle with the tranquil “Rest of the Heron”, as dusk descends on Natthall.
