On this new song-by-song remake, the Mexican indie star jettisons the mournful strings, thunderclap drums and blissful synths, all without losing any of the original album’s drama. It’s an occasionally startling but always stunning act of creative reinvention, whether Morrison is recasting the moody dream-pop ballad “Vez Primera” as a haunting acoustic lament or uncovering the fragile folk song that lurked under the epic sweep of “Cercania”.
