Helmed by Santhosh Narayanan, the soundtrack for Tamil action thriller Mahaan twists ideas of folk storytelling and failure in love into new shapes. Narayanan unleashes a thundering drum showdown on “Soorayaatam”—while the pace is radically different but measured on the melancholy “Pona Povura”. The rest of Mahaan offers hip-hop on the satirical “Rich Rich” with ofRO and Durai, as well as the English rap track “Missing Me”. There’s even grandiose electro-rock (“Naan Naan”) and jazz-informed flourishes (“Umm Song” and “Evanda Enakku Custody”) to wrap up.
