While amapiano showed up in trickles in 2020’s Bandlase, the popular sound dominates Bandlase Vol.2 as Vico Da Sporo colours his trademark Afro-house sound with amapiano’s log drum and flute stabs. A wide range of vocalists give the songs their identity on this highly collaborative album. Joel Nyuswa, Jey Charles and Sibusiso ISO Makhoba render refined vocals to the mellow “Eyokuza”, “Nay’nkinga” and “Her”, while Mbomboshe’s contributions to “Thandiwe” are borrowed from Bolobedu house, which Vico experiments with on “3 Souls”. Dr smile’s maskandi falsetto on “Ematarvern Dance Feel” adds more flavour to an album designed to shine a spotlight on vocalists.
