Malayalam action drama King of Kotha is heavy to begin with, thanks to its world of gangsters and crime. However, its soundtrack only adds more weight to proceedings as composers Jakes Bejoy and Shaan Rahman turn up the volume to 11. Dramatic hip-hop and electro-fusion cuts are joined by sweeping rock-infused numbers, with seasoned rappers and singers popping up throughout. Highlights include power-packed “Kotha Raja”—featuring fiery verses from Roll Rida, Dabzee and Asal Kolaar—and the brass-led “King of Kotha”, which sees rapper Fejo in energetic form. Elsewhere, the pensive, drifting folk ballad “Doore” is both tranquil and sweet.
