Power
Album · Hip-Hop/Rap · 1988
After helping pioneer West Coast gangsta rap on his debut, Ice-T refined his street-oriented, politically conscious rhymes to achieve greater impact on 1988’s Power. In the anti-drug “I’m Your Pusher/Pusherman”, he makes a case for rap as a “natural high” while stoking a feud with LL Cool J, enlisting an actual pimp to drop an ad-libbed diss. “Radio Suckers” ridicules programmers unwilling to play hip-hop, and “Girls L.G.B.N.A.F.” is a raunchy bedroom jam par excellence.
