Seasick Steve’s first widely distributed release, I Started Out with Nothin and I Still Got Most of It Left, finds him fleshing out his sound. The country bluesman still lobs gobs of wily boogie. After all, “Thunderbird” is pure junkyard-stompin’ fun, yet you have to love those sweet gospel flavours seeping into both the title track and “Happy Man”. Steve then turns surprisingly moody on “Just Like a King”, a duet with pal and fellow blues aficionado Nick Cave, as he flashes more of his introspective side.
