Freed from a major-label deal that saw him hyped as grime’s next big thing but ultimately produced no music, Dwayne Mahorn pitched his first full-length as a “pre-album” to 2010’s Born Blessed. It deserves bigger billing than simple appetiser though. The energised gumbo of whip-crack beats, sub bass and ear-worm hooks nods to hip-hop (“Name Out Your Mouth”), R&B (“House Wife”) and rock (“Grime Killers”). The music is often secondary to Mahorn though: versatile, provocative and witty, he still sounds like one the UK’s most exciting MCs.
