Van Halen
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
Album · Hard Rock · 1991
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge contains plenty of Van Halen’s rambunctious hard rock, perfect for party time. The double-entendre-laced “Poundcake” leads off the album, bursting with Eddie’s power-drill screams and Sammy’s hurts-so-good howls. But the band also flash a serious side: the tight, punchy piano rocker “Right Now” urgently addresses the ills of modern society, and “Pleasure Dome” is a sci-fi-tinged examination of celebrity decadence built with dizzyingly complex harmonics and inspired by jazz fusion.
