The first single from BE, “Second Bite of the Apple”, introduces Beady Eye’s second album with clattering percussion, a fuzzed-out bass line and a brassy horn section. The embellishments are hallmarks of the group’s newly enlisted producer Dave Sitek, but the big melody is the unmistakable work of former Oasis vocalist Liam Gallagher. Many of the most impressive tunes on BE are straightforward rock anthems with imaginative production flourishes, from the searing horns and chugging guitars of the opener, “Flick of the Finger”, to closing ballad, “Start Anew”, which builds a simple strum of acoustic guitar into a foggy haze of synthesizers.
