The debut album of blues-rock extraordinaires Heartless Bastards showed a young rock band proving their chops with lowdown, dirty riffage, but on their second record, All This Time, they hit their stride and reveal that they’ve got some soul. “Into the Open” introduces the album with old-timey piano and lead vocals from Erika Wennerstrom that channel Patti Smith, while tracks like “All This Time” blend the group’s bare-bones garage-rock riffs with a pop-worthy briskness.
