About A Kite Is A Victim
Artist Biography
The Florida-based soft rock band A Kite Is a Victim -- sometimes called AKIAV by fans -- spent years playing at local clubs, coffeehouses, and any other place they could land a gig. The group is known to show up dressed all in black, their music often quiet, soft, and even sad. Members are acoustic guitarist, songwriter, and singer Al Galvez; bassist Henry Rajan; and percussionist and drummer Ulysses Perez. Those years of performing from gig to gig, keeping an exhausting schedule, gave the guys plenty of time to perfect their skills and their act. It also gave them the chance to share the stag with artists like Cerberus Shoal, the Van Pelt, Retsin, Low, and Sonora Pine.
In 1998, A Kite Is a Victim finally recorded an album, simply titled Home. It was released on the Space Cadette Records label. The album is filled with moving love songs and whispered romantic tunes like "While Danny Sleeps," "Open Book," "Message Me Never Again," "Home to Your Ghost," and "All You Have to Do." The music on the album is enjoyable, but the surprise is the cardboard CD cover. Each one is handpainted with ink watercolors and comes with a soft feather attached to it. The well-thought out package even contains a little white beach sand and a booklet that is filled with song lyrics, pictures, and drawings.
After all of the work on the debut, A Kite Is a Victim waited over two years before turning their attention to a sophomore offering, Strange Delight. ~ Charlotte Dillon
