Artist Biography
Also a visual artist who paints and directs her own music videos, Avalon Lurks makes haunting, '80s post-punk-inspired indie electronica as simply AVALON. The Santa Ana, California native cites Depeche Mode, the Cure, and Björk as major influences. Lurks began uploading music to streaming sites as a teenager in 2014, beginning with the eerie synth instrumental "Plans Fall Through." She added detached vocals to the more effervescent "You Got a Lot of Thirsty Hoes and I'm Not One" and "Tell My Ex," also in 2014. "Catholic Girls" and "Catholic Girls 2" followed in 2015, and "niño" and "Deadbeat Boy" reinforced her dark, cavernous sound in 2017. That year, she also contributed vocals and guitar to Tricky's ununiform album. Having developed a following not only online but in Southern California surrounding her live shows, the Metropolitan Indian label released the 7" "Deadbeat Boy/Downhill Together" in 2018. ~ Marcy Donelson
