About Bigi Mo
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At about 10 years old I discovered I could record onto cassette tape on my family's radio. Of course I immediately gathered my siblings around the radio — I hit record on the radio, they sung the "chorus", I "rapped" — I was hooked.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? A$AP Rocky, AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP Nyashinski, Lucky You The Notorious B.I.G., Life After Death (2014 Remaster) The stories in these albums are very vivid and richly told so you are immersed in the world of the musician. If I need an album that allows me escape in stories I can build pictures of in my mind with hi-fidelity vividness — one of these will do.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Mini Mtu Mbaya” This was the first song I feel accomplished my long sort ambition to fuse Afrobeat and Hip Hop. I have always aspired to be an artist that inhabits the between of what is Hip Hop but at the very core is Afrobeat. I think MMM succeeds in doing that.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My mom paying for the mastering of my first album — very poorly self produced — utterly undeserving. But it was very precious to me. I am sure she knew it was bad, but never said so, just supported the potential. I love you mom.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to record a live album accompanied by a full band — maybe even an orchestra. I visited a studio in Nairobi, where I saw a band record their whole entire album in one session, one take, with all live musicians. That for me is the pinnacle.
