Cheeky Monkey was a collaboration between New York-based singer/songwriter Michael Shelley and Scotland's Francis McDonald, an alumnus of such highly regarded pop units as Teenage Fanclub, Eugenius and the BMX Bandits. As the two performers had never previously met in person, the first batch of Cheeky Monkey songs were composed over the telephone; finally, in September 1997, both converged on Glasgow, where the tracks comprising their debut Four Arms to Hold You were recorded and produced in just four days. The LP appeared early the following year. ~ Jason Ankeny
