About Civil Service
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My first trumpet teacher in primary school was a monster on trombone! I remember he got really frustrated with another student not completing her homework tasks and blew the most impressive (and expressive) blast in disappointment.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Coldplay, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends Gillian Welch, The Harrow & The Harvest Mark Ronson, Uptown Special There is so much good music in the world, but these were the first that popped into my head. Looking at all three of my choices, they all feature great songwriting, creative arrangements and amazing musicianship.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Take You Home Tonight” Writing and recording this song was my first foray into producing my own music and I've been hooked ever since. I love eighties music and I think the epic synth breakdowns in this song are a testament to that. I also love the urgency in the chorus.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I've now been shortlisted twice for the Australian Songwriting Competition (ASAI) and most recently for 'Take You Home Tonight' which I wrote, recorded, produced and mixed. I'm really proud of that song.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I'd love to win the International Songwriting Competition and collaborate with as many artists as possible. Collaborations are such a great way to learn about new techniques and sounds, while also meeting cool new people.
