About Delmore Brothers
Artist Biography
Alton and Rabon--Alabama's Delmore Brothers--popularized the close-harmony style of singing (later made legendary by the likes of the Louvin and Everly Brothers) and embraced the blues with a fervor unmatched by their Grand Ole Opry contemporaries. While they soared to fame in the '30s on the strength of singles such as "Brown's Ferry Blues" and "Alabama Lullaby," the brothers fell out of favor with the Nashville establishment. After relocating to Cincinnati, they rebounded in the mid '40s with a hillbilly boogie makeover that found their trademark harmonies bolstered by electric guitar licks--as evidenced on their famed anthem "Blues Stay Away From Me."
