About Eliane Salek
Artist Biography
One of the finest jazz singers, flutists, and pianists in Brazil, Eliane Salek was awarded both in national contests (Jovens Concertistas, Funarte) and international ones (International Festival of Female Composers, UFRJ). As a flutist she performed with the Orquestra Sinfônica da UFRJ, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Espírito Santo, and the Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional da Rádio MEC at the same time that she participated in Severino Araújo's Orquestra Tabajara and Marcos Szpillman's Rio Jazz Orchestra. She took voice classes with Lídia Podorowsky and Eládio González, and participated in master classes with Anne-Marie Helot and François Loup, having been selected for the choir of the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro in 1998. She has released three solo albums, one of them distributed in the U.S. with Hélcio Milito's group. As a pianist and flutist, she has worked with Elba Ramalho, Toquinho, Zeca Pagodinho, and Sivuca, among others. She also worked as soundtrack composer/arranger for TV Globo in the soap operas and series Louco Amor, A Sucessora, and Top Model, which were all exported to Europe. A researcher of Brazilian music, she received her B.A. in flute through UFRJ, attaining her master's degree in flute through UNI-RIO. She studied with Esther Scliar, Guerra Peixe, Norton Morozowikz, and Celso Woltzenlogel. ~ Alvaro Neder
