About Eliete Negreiros
Artist Biography
One of the most expressive artists of the "vanguarda paulista" (the vanguard of the state of São Paulo which appeared in the '80s), Eliete Negreiros was influenced since childhood by her mother, a pianist, and by her uncle, a mandolinist. She attended the Music Conservatory of São Paulo, starting professionally in the '70s, when she traveled through Mexico and the U.S., singing in Brazilian music groups. Upon her return to Brazil in 1982, she recorded the LP Outros Sons, winning the APCA Award as the Outstanding Female Singer of the Year. In the next year, she participated in the LP MPB/Edição Independente, produced by the critical weekly Pasquim. "Ângulos: Tudo Está Dito" was written especially for her by Caetano Veloso, Arrigo Barnabé, and Eduardo Gudin, and included on her similarly titled LP recorded in 1986. In 1992, she won the APCA Award as the Best Singer for the CD Canção Brasileira: A Nossa Bela Alma. ~ Alvaro Neder
