About Fakhri Malekpour
Artist Biography
Persian pianist Fakhri Malekpour first took up the instrument at age nine, under the tutelage of famed composer Morteza Khan Mahjubi.
∙ As the last student who studied directly under Mahjubi (who passed away in 1965), she dedicated her life to keeping his school and teachings alive.
∙ Malekpour has never given a public concert and has agreed to only a handful of interviews over the years, despite her status as the most prominent torchbearer for Persian-tuned piano.
∙ In 2006, she published an album called Master’s Exercise that includes all of Mahjubi’s manuscripts and notes.
∙ Citing her mentor whenever she receives any sort of commendation, Malekpour also titled her two-part 2018 album Dedicated to Morteza Mahjubi.
