Artist Biography
Persian composer Fardin Khal’atbari initially went to university to study civil engineering but gave it up to focus on music.
∙ He composed the score for 1999’s An Umbrella for Two and has written music for dozens of other films, including Night Bus, Another Night, and The Postman Doesn’t Knock Three Times.
∙ Khal’atbari has also written music for many Iranian TV series, including Tenth Night, Shahrzad, and Zero Degree Turn.
∙ He’s been nominated numerous times for Best Soundtrack honors at Iran’s annual Fajr Film Festival.
∙ Many of Khal’atbari’s most memorable scores feature famed Persian singer Alireza Ghorbani.
∙ In 2019, he directed Freedom Mourning, a 10-night theater and music performance in Tehran’s Ab-o-Atash Park during the city’s annual ta’zieh celebrations.
∙ The Iran National Orchestra performed Khal’atbari’s piece “Restless for Balqis,” as a show of support for Lebanon after that city’s 2020 bombing.
