About German Bach Soloists
Artist Biography
The German Bach Soloists are a world-renowned instrumental, and sometimes vocal, ensemble that specializes in performing the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The group has also recorded works by composers such as Georg Philipp Telemann, Joseph Fiala, Domenico Scarlatti, in addition to violin concertos of Mozart. Although the ensemble does not limit itself only to Bach, it programs music mostly from within the confines of the Baroque period. The German Bach Soloists consists of professional players mostly from Germany.
German conductor and oboist, Helmut Winschermann, founded the chamber orchestra Deutsche Bachsolisten (German Bach Soloists) in 1960. A longtime professor at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik and Detmold College of Music, Winschermann was named an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1995. Winschermann has led the German Bach Soloists since its beginning. With Winschermann conducting, the ensemble has toured regularly to several continents throughout the world. Occasionally guest conductors have stood in Winschermann's place, such as conductor Wolfgang Gönnenwein, who has led several choirs and ensembles in Stuttgart. Also, conductor Klaus Martin Ziegler has made some recordings with the chamber ensemble.
Many of the German Bach Soloists' recordings are on the Laserlight budget label, although certain selections may be found on Philips Classics. The German Bach Soloists are quite excellent in their realm of specialization, appealing to most audiences who love the Baroque and similar music.
