Artist Biography
Israel's first-ever Eurovision Song Contest winner, in 1978, the combination of actor/vocalist Izhar Cohen and backing quintet Alphabeta triumphed with "A-Ba-Ni-Bi." Lining up as Reuven Erez, Lisa Gold-Rubin, Nehama Shutan, Ester Tzuberi, and Itzhak Okev, Alphabeta were united with Cohen specifically for the event; following their victory, both artists pursued their own subsequent careers, with Cohen alone returning to the Eurovision stage in 1985 and finishing fifth with "Ole Ola." ~ Dave Thompson
