About J Nolan
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember when I was about 3 or 4 years old, my favorite music videos were MC Hammer's "You Can't Touch This" and Wrecks-N-Effect's "Rump Shaker." They used to come on TV just about everyday and I'd always dance to these songs.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Lupe Fiasco, Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor Makaveli, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory OutKast, ATLiens All three of these albums helped to shape my approach to songwriting. Each artist having their own worldview challenged me to interpret my thoughts as an artist and to dig beyond the surface. These albums also remind me of simpler times as a kid.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Legal Hustle” This song exemplifies the independent hustle that I've undertaken over the past few years. Being a full-time artist & songwriter has pushed my creativity to new levels and opened my eyes to the real business of music and how to maneuver.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Performing on Hot 97's "Top Shelf Freestyle" still holds the title for me. This was my first time traveling to New York City as an actual rapper, so being in the presence of Loaded Lux and the Hot 97 staff showed that my hard work was paying off.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Meet Jay-Z. Co-write an album for Bow Wow. Become a music supervisor for a culturally relevant movie or TV show. Go on a real tour, both nationally and internationally.
