About Jonathan Hape
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. The sound of my dad's old pedals and the smell of his tube amp. He would play Talking Heads cassettes, New York Dolls albums, Beatles records and explain how records were mixed, leading to my career in audio.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Herbie Hancock, Head Hunters R.E.M., Automatic For The People (2017 Remaster) The Microphones, The Glow, Pt. 2 These albums affected how I hear music. Automatic showed me what music could be and started my love of music. The Glow Pt 2 changed how I approach the music I write and record. Head Hunters turned me into a jazz fan (especially modal and post bop).
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Harm” I believe the message of this song speaks to why I write music: to show others that we can challenge ourselves to be kind to all. All deserve to be equal, all deserve love. Listen to other people and let people be who they are.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I have been able to tour internationally seeing many beautiful sights (45 of the lower 48, most of Canada, Germany, and Switzerland). I have opened for many national acts with the bands I play in. I have had solo music featured on A&E and Spike TV.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would simply love to make music of all kinds with all of my projects and help support other artists on a label. Having a home for my art and an ongoing community to be a part of is still my biggest goal that hasn't happened yet.
