About Larry Heard
Artist Biography
Credited as the godfather of deep house, Larry Heard began his career playing percussion in jazz-fusion groups before becoming fascinated by synthesizers and drum machines. Heard made his recording debut in 1985 as the It (a collaboration with street poet Harry Dennis), releasing the singles "Donnie" and "Gallimaufry Gallery." He began solo work under the name Mr. Fingers, releasing the influential singles "Mystery of Love" and "Can You Feel It?" In 1989, he produced Kym Mazelle’s "Treat Me Right" and Lil’ Louis's "Touch Me" and undertook production work for artists as diverse as Adamski, Electribe 101, and Massive Attack. Throughout the '90s and '00s, Heard produced a steady flow of excellent albums, notably INTRODUCTION (1992) and LOVE'S ARRIVAL (2001).
