Artist Biography
Marvin Camacho is one of Latin America's leading composers. His works have been performed internationally, and a recording of his Cantata Negra earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination in 2023. In 1984, Camacho won Costa Rica's National Arts Award for a solo double bass composition called Bribrí Mediation, and the following year, he matriculated as a composition student at the University of Costa Rica. Camacho's career developed steadily over the next two decades. Camacho's debut album, Rituales y Legendas, appeared in 2012. Several of Camacho's compositions were included in a Costa Rican recording series, and in 2018, his Canciones del amore ausente for soprano, clarinet, horn, and piano appeared on the album Emociones del Alma by the Wagner Trio. In 2023, Camacho released his Cantata Negra for chorus and orchestra on an EP, and it earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Classical Album.
