About Moonshine Kate
Artist Biography
Born Rosa Lee Carson, guitar and banjo player Kate Moonshine is known mostly for the fine accompaniment she displayed at the side of her father, Fiddlin' John Carson. The father/daughter team had a half-music/half-comedy act in the late '20s that utilized Kate as a spunky, devil-tongued mountain woman who frequently put the oafish character played by Carson in his place. Moonshine also had a recording career of her own, however, singing bluesy story songs such as "Little Mary Phagan," which re-told the story of an innocent 13-year old factory girl being murdered at the hands of her boss. ~ Steve Kurutz
