Natiruts Essentials
The distinctively lilting bass style of Luís Mauricio and the smooth, soulful vocals of Alexandre Carlo are the lynchpins of Natiruts' upbeat reggae sound. Formed in 1996, the band are like a ray of distilled musical sunshine—and that easy charisma saw them quickly rise to prominence. Their funky cuts and easygoing grooves have proved to be enduringly popular, seeing them become a fixture in Brazil and earning them Latin GRAMMY® nominations. A reliable feel-good factor has led them to issue several live albums that capture the community spirit of the Natiruts experience.
About Natiruts
Artist Biography
The reggae roots band Natiruts was formed in Brasília (Distrito Federal) in 1994 under the name Nativus. In 1997, the group launched the independent CD Nativus, which had a hit with "Presente de um Beija-Flor" and sold 40,000 copies. Sued by the band Os Nativos, they changed the group's name after a long judicial battle to Natiruts. Reissued by EMI, the first album sold 450,000 copies. Povo Brasileiro had hits with "Povo Brasileiro" and "Proteja-se e Lute," and Verbalize had success with its title track. ~ Alvaro Neder
