About Obliterations
Artist Biography
Though they formed in 2012, Obliterations are a punk band with a sound that harks back to the reckless and raucous sounds of '80s hardcore and speed metal. Based out of Los Angeles, the band was formed by guitarist Stephen McBean (of Black Mountain), bassist Austin Barber (of Saviours), and singer Sam James Velde (from Night Horse), who had all crossed paths on the road with their respective bands before settling in California. After bonding over a love of bands like Black Flag and Born Against, the trio started to jam, crafting their raw and aggressive sound between tours with their regular gigs. After recruiting drummer Flo Schanze, Obliterations were able to take the next step, signing on with Southern Lord and heading into the studio with Young Widows' Chris Owens to record their 2014 debut, Poison Everything. ~ Gregory Heaney
