About Peter Broggs
Artist Biography
Reggae singer-songwriter Peter Broggs' itch for music was stoked in the isolation of the Jamaican countryside of his youth, and was certainly not hurt by the culture shock of bustling Kingston. After a pair of memorable singles and enchantment with Rastafairianism, Broggs hooked up with dub legends Sly & Robbie to score his most enduring song "Jah Golden Throne." Over the years, Broggs would work with everyone from DJ Prince Far I to Coxsone Dodd to Gregory Isaacs to Roots Radics, infusing his creations with everything from roots to progressive to dancehall. In 1988, he scored a surprise hit with "Cease the War," and continued to produce glorious conscientious roots reggae on the RAS label until a stroke slowed him down in 2004.
