About Peter Collins
Artist Biography
London's Peter Collins started playing guitar in his teens, eventually developing into a singer/songwriter and then producer. He recorded one album for Decca Records before U.K. label Magnet Records hired Collins as their producer after hearing some of his masters. One of the first acts Collins produced was Matchbox ("Rockabilly Rebel"). In 1985, he went to the U.S. to produce Rush, which led to work with Queensryche after being introduced to the band by guitarist Gary Moore. Some other hits he produced include Philip Bailey and Phil Collins' "Easy Lover," Bon Jovi's "Always," "Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth, and Tracy Ullman's "They Don't Know" -- all U.S. Top Ten hits -- as well as Indigo Girls' Swamp Ophelia, Alice Cooper's Hey Stoopid, and Blancmange's "Don't Tell Me." Collins remained active in the industry through the late 2010s; he died in 2024 at the age of 73.
