About Southeast Engine
Artist Biography
Southeast Engine touches upon the twangy melancholia of the Appalachians as well as the once-thriving indie scene in Dayton, Ohio, where several of the bandmates were raised. The group's earliest incarnation was launched in 1999. Their self-released debut, Love Is a Murder, A Mystery of Sorts, appeared in 2003, followed two years later by Coming to Terms with Gravity. Misra reissued Gravity in 2007, kicking off a long partnership. A Wheel Within a Wheel was released later in 2007, while 2009's From the Forest to the Sea earned the band some high praise. For 2011's Canary, Southeast Engine began dabbling with Appalachian music, focusing most of the songs on a fictional family living in a mountain town during the Great Depression. ~ Kenyon Hopkin
