About The Davis Twins
Artist Biography
The Davis Twins were an altogether different sort of sibling proposition than the the Davis Sisters, one quite obvious factor being double the head count of Davis relations on-stage in the latter group. A late-'50s disc jockey from Charleston, WV, calling himself Sleepy Jeffers was wide awake enough to initiate the brief recording career of twin-brother-and-sister act Sonny Davis and Honey Davis (the latter was Jeffers' wife).
Jeffers, whose radio home base was Charleston's WTIP, utilized the Davis Twins as harmony singers on a single entitled "Pretending Is a Game." The song's philosophical outlook has been deemed worthy enough for inclusion on at least five compilations of rockabilly tracks. The original release of the song was on the magnificent Starday label circa 1957. The flip side, "My Blackbirds Are Bluebirds Now," is certainly something to crow about as well. On their own, the Davis Twins were regulars on radio station WWVA's program entitled the Wheeling Jamboree stretching back as far as the late '30s. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
