About The Senders
Artist Biography
The original incarnation of rock & roll revivalists the Senders gigged around New York City clubs during the late '70s, led by vocalist Philippe Marcade. They left only one recording behind, 1980's Seven Song Super Single, which featured a pub rock-inflected mix of '50s-style originals and covers of early rock & roll and R&B songs by artists like Little Richard and Howlin' Wolf. After the band broke up, Marcade led an R&B combo called the Backbones, who also mixed covers with originals. In 1989, three original members of the Senders -- including Marcade and guitarist Wild Bill Thompson -- reunited with a new bass player and recorded the live album Do the Sender Thing at CBGB. ~ Steve Huey
