About The Sprawl
Artist Biography
Named after the classic trilogy of cyberpunk novels by science fiction author William Gibson, the Sprawl is a collaboration between British experimental grime producers Mumdance and Logos and Italian noise/techno artist Shapednoise. As with many of their individual productions, their work as the Sprawl is harsh, loud, and unsettling, with piercing tones and ultra-low bass frequencies ripping through the speakers, sometimes dispensing with rhythm entirely. Lush pads recalling old-school jungle sometimes emerge, but they do little to offset the apocalyptic mayhem. The Sprawl's first release, EP1, appeared on the Death of Rave in 2015. Following a limited 2015 mixtape on the Reel Torque imprint, EP2 was released in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson
