About Those Magnificent Men
Artist Biography
During the late 90s and early 00s, a tribute pop group named the Bootleg Beatles enjoyed considerable UK popularity. Band members were Neil Harrison, as John Lennon, Dave Catin-Birch (who was replaced for a mid-term spell by Paul Cooper), as Paul McCartney, André Barreau, as George Harrison, and an American, Rick Rock, as Ringo Starr. Concurrently, these artists also played in and formed other bands to accommodate their eclectic musical tastes. One such band was Those Magnificent Men, a country rock band led by guitarist Barreau that also enjoyed success in the UK. Some of these bands were recorded for Rock’s own label, Way Out West Records. The repertoire of Those Magnificent Men includes ‘What Kind Of Country Is This?’, ‘Nine Miles High’, ‘Got A Thing About You’, ‘Looks Like Rain’, ‘It’s Women That’s Killing Me’, ‘I’m Smoking Again’, ‘Kissing In The Wind’, ‘Wrong Side Of The River’, and ‘This Land’. Songs from their 1999 debut, What Kind Of Country Is This?, appear on the soundtrack of Peter Howitt’s Sliding Doors (1998). Among Barreau’s other compositions is music for another of Howitt’s films, Dangerous Parking (2007).
